Ms Rachel has to ask the world to investigate hanging black people
a day ago by Trump Rapes Kids to c/aboringdystopia
It's insane to me that there have been so many cases of black people found hanging recently and they've pretty much all been brushed off.
There's something wrong with the world when a children's entertainer needs to ask the country to bother caring about it.
The problem is that we don't have any information
Conspiracy people are going to say it's a cover up but also it very well could be suicide or non-racially motivated murders
In that article the family straight up agrees one case was suicide, and in another case the family admitted that the victims was constantly being bullied, so good chance for suicide there too
The latest case in that article was so new we didn't even know the victims name
That's 3 out of 7 all year.
One case the woman left town for a family reunion and while no arrest was made her on-again-off-again black boyfriend was questioned and witnesses say that two had gotten into a fight the day before she was found. He was a felon who was currently set to appear in court for felony possession of a firearm.
So maybe 4 black people were hung due to racism. More likely, if any, it was 3. But also, maybe not. Not only do we not know any of these were murders, but we also don't know it was a white person that did it even if it was murder
and you're talking about a problem that is, at most, 7 people across the entire united states over 8 months
The problem is that we don’t have any information
Guess what investigating does. It gives you more information. Imagine that.
It's not that the police don't have any information, it's that we, the people on Lemmy, don't have any information.
The police said "suicide" and that's where the story stops. You're just assuming there is more to it but you don't have any proof that there actually is
The article says one case even the family agrees is suicide. Another case the family agrees the victim was being bullied and so suicide is a strong possibility. One case the police have a suspect and it's her boyfriend but there isn't enough evidence to charge him. One case was so new we didn't even have a name yet
According to the CDC about 12,000 people a year hanged themselves. You don't think any of those people are ever black?
You're just assuming these are all racially motivated cases of murder that the police are covering up... but you have zero evidence of that
And even if it were true it's 4 cases over 8 months across the entirety of the United States. Not exactly the kind of thing that warrants national attention
According to the CDC about 12,000 people a year hanged themselves. You don’t think any of those people are ever black?
I don't think it's likely that black people often hang themselves from a tree in a way that looks suspiciously like a lynching.
And even if it were true it’s 4 cases over 8 months across the entirety of the United States. Not exactly the kind of thing that warrants national attention
Dude, national attention is given to the most trivial of issues. Why is it undeserving in this case?
the family admitted that the victims was constantly being bullied, so good chance for suicide there too
Or, the victim was constantly harassed until being found hanging from a tree, so there's already a motive and likely a handful of suspects
According to the CDC about 12,000 people a year hanged themselves
Any estimates on how many did it outdoors, where they're likely to be interrupted? See, this is the suspicious part. Basically no-one ever attempts hanging in public. Here, you have seven people over a year and the police just shrugs.
So this is tough to track but the US NVDRS data says that between 2005-2014 there were 25,270 hangings. 90.7% of those involved hanging, so 22,931.
The three most common hanging points were Trees (2215), beams, and closets.
That alone says 221 people hang themselves outdoors every year
Or there just isn't any information because it actually was suicide
Again, one of them the family agrees probably was suicide. One of them the family admits that the victim was being bullied and so suicide is a strong possibility. One of them is probably murder there just isn't enough evidence to prove it. The fourth case was so new we didn't even have a name
The other four we have no information on. It's not that the police don't have any information, we, the people of lemmy, don't have any information on them. All we know is that the police ruled it suicide. We have zero evidence that the police didn't investigate or that there were signs of a struggle and the police covered it up... all we know is the police said, "suicide"
Which isn't all that shocking because according to the CDC about 12,000 people a year commit suicide by hanging themselves. You don't think any of those people are ever black?
And even if there were signs of a struggle that the police ignored we still have zero evidence that the murderer is white. Black people can't hang each other? Hispanic people can't hang black people?
It's ironically racist to just assume that it had to be something only a white person could have done. Like saying every time you hear a story of someone getting shot you just assume the trigger man is black. Doesn't matter what color you skin is, people are people. Anybody could have done this, including the victim themselves
So the only way this matters is if it turns out all four of the remaining cases turned out to be racially motivated murders committed by a white person but even then, it's four people across 8 months over the entirely of the United States... not exactly the kind of thing that needs nation wide attention
I WILL FIGHT FOR THAT LITTLE WHITE LADY!!! 😭✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Ok...now i'm tearin up...😭
Ms. Rachel is her generation's Mr. Rogers.

Black communities should put up their own version of Flock cameras, strategically placed to watch trees. ...Unfortunately, this isn't a joke. Seriously, communities would have to take action outside of the law, because the law is Klan aligned. 😦
The last time black people raised up to protect their neighborhood with the black panthers, we all saw what happened.
CIA propaganda made them out to be the bad guys. Imagine that.
The Trump Regime is gonna do that anyways.
The mass surveillance is being run by the klan
Black people don't hang themselves from trees
Well spoken ms Rachel.
And if you 🫵 think you don't get it, let it sink in a little longer.
picuki.site is how I view Instagram links
Good on her, and sad she's needing to speak out on this.
As far as I'm concerned the cops in these cases are complicit
For sure. When there's no ladder on site, no low branches so it would be an extremely difficult tree to climb by yourself, and they're calling it a suicide the next morning you know they didn't bother to investigate.
At best they didn't bother to investigate and at worst they know who did it and support it. Knowing the behavior of American police I'm unable to narrow it down from there.
Welcome to the world we live in now. The US and large swaths of the world are going fascist but I saw a guy on the news yesterday that was knocked down by a buffalo.
Say it with me!
Black 👏 People 👏 Don't 👏 Hang 👏 Themselves 👏 From 👏 Trees 👏
Wtf !? Are we back to the kkk era ?
I don't know who this is, and I would never use Instagram. But I would read a summary if someone would write one.
She works as the host(?) of a kids show. Basically modern Mr. Rogers, as far as I can tell, in terms of being a good person and just wanting to be a good role-model for children.
The post isn’t long. It’s “black people don’t hang themselves from trees” in regards to the fact that over a half-dozen people have been found fucking lynched and no one has done fuck-all about it.
She's a children's entertainer that's often compared to Mr Rogers (IDK how true it is, I don't have kids) who like a year or two ago began speaking on politics calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza, particularly focusing on the children of Palestine.
That's awesome. Too bad it's on a platform that supports things she is against.
But a summary of what was said?
She's not an influencer. Not everyone is.
I never said she was? I just don't support meta, so I will not look at Instagram.
Oh my bad
I didn't come to discuss OP's topic. I came because of OP's name.
I enjoy the claim and the sentiment.
Thanks. I can't say I enjoy anything about it, but I definitely appreciate that reaction more than the guy who said it must be like the pot calling the kettle black last night.
I'd been imagining lots of people doing similar things and it becoming a news article that could cause an asshole to have an aneurysm.
Asshole aneurysm... Their is either a heavy metal band name or the way gay men are describing hands free orgasms.
Either way seems like a good time
Don't bring the world in this, it's your mess USA.
They may be hung, but they’ve been hanged, unfortunately
Wtf are you saying?
I think they tried to help others only to be told to mind their own business. Assumed they would not be helped by others either, therefore became selfish instead.
Tragic really.
But I really doubt their experience involves a hanging and their comments are very disrespectful
All the tortured energy has to go somewhere I guess.
Not to be that guy, because yes look into that because ice and stuff... But
Seven in the entire US? Yes they are black but that's a significant portion of the people in the us. Suicide often happens by hanging and that they do it where they will be found is not uncommon either. So the numbers kinda suggest this might just be daily tragedy in the US.
More kids die from school shootings every day in the us.
African Americans do not hang themselves from trees in public places. They know better. They know what that implies
We can control for location of the hanging. We just need a little more data.
How many hangings in the US over the same time period as the "seven" mentioned above in similar locations: in public, from trees.
I'd bet that those seven are disproportionately represented in that data set.
Many, maybe even most, suicidial people do not think about all of that. It's why some throw themselves in front of a train or jump off a building in daylight despite this causing severe trauma to bystanders.
They are in an acute crisis and for the most part cannot think of anything but ending their life. Whoever will find their corpse is often not a concern whatsoever.
Not to be that guy
Proceeds to be "that guy."
As hills go, man. I'm not sure I would've died on this one, sheesh.
Proof? Looking through their comment history, they read "enlightened centrist" which is certainly not a great look, but I didn't see a zionist take. Just some pretty pathetic "I've thought about things" and "murder is always bad, which is why we shouldn't threaten the lives of anyone including mass murderers who will probably never see consequences in their lifetimes" ones
I considered myself a centrist until the last 20 years happened. Opposition to the statement "no one should be lynched" should not exist in a sane society. BLM and "ANTIFA" being targeted should have been enough to open all eyes, but the propaganda+ brainwashing is robust & people are stupid. Tough equation.
Fucks sake
How many people hang themselves on trees in the US?
Suicide method is highly preferential, meaning that if someone is prevented from their chosen method, the vast majority simply do not commit suicide. We've seen this over and over - not just on a personal level, if you install prevention measures on a popular suicide spot the local rate of suicide goes down
For men in the US, guns are the most common method (pills for women). Hanging isn't uncommon, but doing so outside is
It's also highly cultural. In more collectivist countries, public suicide happens much more. The US is very individualistic, so while people will jump from bridges and such, it tends to be done in private spaces. Doing it as a public display just isn't as common here
Not to mention the fact that the cases I've read about have been sketchy as hell... Very speedy investigation, ignoring signs like bruising and contusions, no mention of alcohol or drugs
And finally, it's lynching. There's certainly cultural weight to lynching as a method of group murder, especially of certain groups
So no... Seven people choosing is too few for it to be a new chosen method in the zeitgeist - if it were dozens, that would be far more convincing. This is sketchy as hell
Point of clarification: lynching is not a method of killing, but a kind of murder. Hanging stands out in the popular imagination as the form of lynching in America but it isn't the only form and the terms aren't equivalent.
How many people hang themselves on trees in the US?
This is the question I'd like the answer to before I'm going to get too worked up about this one. What are the stats that have led to this statement? Hanging from a tree certainly isn't the way I'd do it and seems like it'd be fairly difficult to pull off on your own compared to other methods but I'm not knowledgeable enough to claim a conspiracy over that. All hangings/deaths should of course be investigated thoroughly.
Elsewhere in this thread someone was citing the CDC and it was a lot. Looking it up myself, 48,824 total in 2024, and 11,453 were by suffocation (including hanging, but not just hanging), so that's 23.5%. Suicide rate for Black Americans is about 8.7 per 100k, Black population is about 51.6 million (or 516 100ks) so figure 4489 completed suicides per year. If the number carries, that's 1055 by suffocation. But a paper by Choi et al from 2022 seems to say Black people are about 10% less likely to use this method than White people, so maybe it's closer to 950. A paper by Yau and Paschall from 2018 gives trees as the most popular anchor points for suicide by hanging, though that is a bare plurality at 9.7%. Still, Yau says 90.7% of suicide by suffocation is hanging, and from my look at the numbers that's 8.8% of suicide by suffocation. So based on all that, if 950 Black Americans commit suicide by suffocation per year, we'd expect about 83.6 to do so by hanging themselves from a tree. Also there are known patterns of physical trauma that one will typically see in a body when someone deliberately hangs themself vs when this is done as an attack on a person (Kryezi 2022 mentions some). None of this is to say that every death we believe is a suicide actually is, but this particular method is not so rare or hard to identify that even half a dozen a month would seem improbable.
Yeah, my doctor said they had detected traces of cancer in my body, and I was like, pssh, statistically doc, I ain't worried about it.
I mean, talk about a worrier. I don't think people even die of cancer?
That’s a really awful take on the situation, you deserve more down votes than I’m allowed to give
Go fuck yourself.
You can go fuck yourself too, chud.

Only 7? So, does that mean you have an acceptable number of lynchings? What is it? 20? 100? 10,000? The population of black and brown people maybe?
And these are just the ones we're aware of. And the media will be like "dO yOu SuPpOrT dEfUnD tHe PoLiCe?"
You sound like you probably watch the multiple videos of officers beating essentially children who are complying at traffic stops and then cheer or claim there's no problem or that they deserved it.
And to address your whataboutism, more people die from car accidents. Even more than that die from our current healthcare system. Yes. Those are all problems. All of which are perpetuated or made worse by rich, conservative white people too. But they're not what's being discussed here.
Only 7? So, does that mean you have an acceptable number of lynchings?
I mean agree or not (I personally don't feel like I can make an informed conclusion here) but that's clearly not what they're saying. They're arguing that these could just be suicides rather than lynchings.
Pretty unusual for those attempting suicide to do it in public places.
Even more unusual and very difficult to also bind your feet and hands before doing so too.
While circumstantial, most of us I feel have enough information to form a conclusion. Similar to the fact that our president is a pedophile.
It's also 7 this year so far. There were more cases last year. And they've been on the rise in recent years.
MAGA songs even explaining how to do it. With 2 cases showing up shortly after the song releases. 🙃
While circumstantial, most of us I feel have enough information to form a conclusion.
I mean, fair enough, but there's no reason/justification for tearing into the top commenter before at least hearing them out.
I don't have time to unpack how abject it is to care about one of those groups of people but not the other, somehow, so I'm just going to jump on the bandwagon here with my own phrasing:
You have failed to follow Wheaton's Law, and it would behoove you to do so in the future.
Your argument doesn't hold water. The means of death here - hung from a tree - is statistically significant when it comes to suicides AND murders. The fact that none of these were investigated is also unusual. And then we add the fact that this specfic kind of death has been used historically, up through the present, as a means of communicating racism, prejudice, and intimidation. Combined, it is compelling evidence for foul play.
You are now that guy. Tagging you as a racist.
Bro you again? lol
