After Killings, Homan Says There Will Be ‘More Bloodshed’ Unless Dems ‘Shut Their Mouth’ About ICE | Common Dreams

a month ago by floofloof to c/news

"They are blaming the opposition for people being killed by their police."

“I’m saying it right now,” Homan said. “There’s still going to be more bloodshed unless they shut their mouth and let ICE enforce the laws that they enacted.”

DHS has acknowledged that neither of the men who have been shot in recent weeks was the target of the ICE operations that led to their deaths.

A witness reported that Guerrero shouted, “I tried to stop” after being shot by an agent while his vehicle moved forward slowly.

I know you were calling on the meme and this isn't against you, but I have to say it's anything BUT bold. It's a coward's strategy.

"More wrong and harder" is the weak way out of having a critical light shone on one's choices. To most of us it's no big deal, but to these guys -- who know far better than we do the truth of what they are doing -- it's ego death and frightening as hell.

Is it easier to stand up and take responsibility for all the evil you have done, or to pull a bit of metal on the gun you're holding a fraction of an inch, in order to kill an unarmed person trying desperately to go on living when you confront them with your own will and means to murder them, knowing that afterward your fellow ICE sociopaths will high-five you like it's something to be proud of?

For those of us with working consciences, that question only gets answered one way.

For the rest, that's a personal profile of every single serving member of ICE. They already know they're not "defending" jack shit and that immigrants are no danger at all. If they were, ICE would not be shooting at them, because ICE goons regularly run from conflict, as Tom Homan is demonstrating right now, and as they all prove when people whip out cameras and start shouting loud enough.

These sociopaths RUN from accountability. They signed up for the opportunity to get paid to play The Most Dangerous Game all day every day, they're glad to do it, and the ones who have any shred of conscience/humanity left in themselves are being eaten alive by it, as they should be.

And Tom Homan is upset that people who do have working consciences are calling bullshit on the whole thing. He's so scared of real accountability that he has equated words with physical danger, lol.

That's not bold. That's weakness. A fucking snowflake in a skin suit who could never personally bear even a fraction of the suffering he readily metes out to others.

I keep seeing this take, but it's hardly uniquely american though. Human societies will put up with a lot as long it means they don't have to leave their comfort zone.

It's why the chinese put up with their party dictatorship, they live in relative comfort. We might see more resistance coming from russian society now because they are starting to feel the consequences of the dictatorships actions.

Joe Biden spent a record amount on ICE camps while the threat of fascism was obviously clear.

Obama not only discovered Homan, but awarded him with a medal when Homan devised a plan to separate migrant children from their parents at detention centers.

Every single dem senator voted to confirm Marco Rubio, who has obviously been one of the biggest champions of "immigration enforcement.

They're not entirely wrong when they say the Democrats gave them a mandate.

I mean we have to acknolwedge that Rubio and Homan did not act back then the way they do now. A Christian Nationalist (Nat-C) movement electing a fascist president has a way of bringing the latent bigot out of people that may have been decent at suppressing it in the past.

People across this nation have been experiencing that on a personal level with their family/friends for the last decade.

Here in Chile, when one President declared war on their people, we trashed the country until his governance was all but surrendered, and we even got the chance of making a new Constitution out of it (the idiots blew it, but that's for Season 2 of the series). He got lucky to make it out of the Presidential building in one piece (we historically don't like it when armed conflict touches the place).

Honestly? The average and median American still has I think the highest disposable income in the world even after accounting for cost of living short of places like Luxembourg. While they're complaining, rightly, about their lot being worse compared to years past, most of them aren't feeling a sort of financial squeeze that's usually needed for that kind of revolutionary action yet.

The US has made a sort of deal with devil that's still mostly paying off for the average citizen. Until the middle class specifically really feel the squeeze, and not just compared to themselves historically, I don't see any revolutionary action happening.

But that number is "only" ~25 million out of over 340 million, or about 7% give or take (double checked my numbers; slightly off, but still under 10%). And they're likely in the worst position to do anything politically because they're too busy surviving. There is a crisis of under insured, but most people don't feel that pressure until it becomes a real problem, then they're in the group that is too busy surviving to enact change. For most Americans, that disposable income number includes healthcare. There's just a stupid amount of money in that country. And while there's a huge gap and most goes to the top, enough goes to the middle class to keep them pacified.

I'm definitely not endorsing the US system; it's a system of haves and have nots and embraces a wealth divide and can be pretty bleak. But most Americans just aren't feeling as much of a financial punch as the complaints might let on.

(This isn't to invalidate Americans who are struggling... been there, been homeless, it's awful. But middle class America, even by European standards, is pretty ridiculously wealthy.)

Well, sort of. Fascism is more precisely a marriage of nationalism and a police state with a corporatocracy where one aids the other in their goals. Which you could definitely argue is what's happening in the US, but isn't really what my point was (and certainly shouldn't be read as an endorsement!).

But yeah, that deal with devil is definitely a complicity. They've been willing to hand vast amounts of money, and rights, to the ruling class because they're been being paid very well to do so. And I don't see revolution happening until there's either a critical mass of people reaching starvation levels of poverty, or the middle class sees all that wealth they traded their rights for evaporate.

For a much more people oriented answer: I'm trying to survive. I'm trying to make sure my dad takes his medication right so he doesn't die. I'm trying to figure out how to pay bills when the local government I work for gave everyone a 2% cost of living raise, then raised taxes 3% and gave the city manager a $26,000 raise even though he was already being paid close to $200k. The only other person I know that doesn't think trump and all his cronies are the bees knees is elderly, has no retirement and is desperately trying to keep working despite health issues because her husband has cancer and she needs to keep working to pay his bills. Even if I made a ton of money and had help with my dad, I still wouldn't be able to do anything because of my health, either (I am 100% that friend who would get eaten by the zombies first) I'm not young anymore, either.

I think the internet makes it seem like a lot more people hate what's going on than there actually is. In my experience, i see a small number of crazy Trump fanatics, a small number of concerned and scared people, and then the vast majority just don't care. At least for now. That'll change when they started being affected. By then it'll be too late.

To sum up: more people don't give a shit than do. We haven't reached the part of the poem where "Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me. "

America should 100% buck these fascists, and I think we’re fucked as a country given the bald faced corruption + bigotry, but if my experience holds true for most of the others then it’s still not bad enough to risk what we have.

People have to lose a lot more for things to change.

They pushed for banning cosmetic features like carry handles and vertical grips.

They've spent decades preventing supressors from being removed from the NFA, causing hundreds of thousands to suffer hearing damage because they think a silencer makes a gun quiet when it really brings the volume down to jackhammer-level that won't instantly damage a hunter's hearing from a single shot.

They effectively stopped the progress on gun safety by creating laws in several states that mandate that once a single smart safety pistol become commercially available that all other guns be outlawed. That lead to the manufacturers refusing to develop the tech for 25 years until the laws were repealed.

California passed a law prohibiting the sale of any new model of handguns that didn't have a microstamping technology thay doesn't exist, resulting in companies like Taurus continuing to manufacture older guns with known safety issues because the newer, safer models were illegal for sale in California.

You know what, let's just go to the source:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

One whole sentence.

Which is why there's an entire field of U.S. law called constitutional law, and why the Supreme Court's primary role is to decide constitutional questions.

That also means we can infer the Constitution doesn't specify every type of weapon people should be allowed to own. For example, it obviously doesn't say that citizens should be able to possess intercontinental ballistic missiles.

What it does mention is "a well-regulated militia." I think that's the more important part of the Second Amendment, even though most people focus almost exclusively on "the right to keep and bear arms."

A free state can, technically, maintain its own military. That context is often overlooked in modern discussions of the amendment.

I feel the same. I've tried that angle with gun nuts before. They focus on 'militia' and infer that since the founders understood 'militia' to mean any able-bodied (white, free, man) that would answer the call to defend the territory, that same must hold true today. They also take "well regulated" to mean 'hunter's safety', 'handgun registration', 'serial numbers', and 'hunting licenses'.

The mental gymnastics put Thomas and the other Reich members on the SC to shame. (not really)

Communicating in text is sometimes difficult. I expect you weren't saying I'm not gonna go to Valhalla. Putting quotes around the phrase would make it clear.

I'm more of German descent than Scandinavian and I understand that their mythologies were fairly similar. For example, today's Santa Claus is actually Teutonic Wotan. It blew my mind when I learned that. I'm just very fascinated by Norse mythology. I blame the old Thor comics that I read when I was a kid that were actually versions of stories of Thor in Valhalla.

Amazingly they were kind of sort of based on the actual legends. The death of Baldr by Loki's treachery, the birth of Sleipnir by Loki when he was in horse form. The half-giant Thor, famous for felling giants.

Does Tom Homan have a personal protection detail? He might just get what he's looking for.

There will be bloodshed regardless, as ICE are murderous thugs. Might as well take some of them with you.

We Americans have explicit rights. We have the right of freedom of speech. We have the right to peaceably assemble to protest. These are explicitly given by the Constitution and cannot be taken away.

If Homan doesn't like the rights that we have, he has only one remedy. He just has to get used to it, and help protect our rights. If he can't do that, he has violated the oath of office that I believe he took, and he has no right to keep that job. Otherwise, he'd be a liar and an oath breaker.

Lamo to be spouting constitutionalist hopium at this stage of the descent.

These [rights] are explicitly given by the Constitution and cannot be taken away.

Then explain how they took away Alex Pretti's rights. Political power does not come from a Constitution; it comes from the barrel of a gun.

Also keep in mind your constitution is the only one I know of that explicitly enshrines the right to enslave people.

I've still yet to see the ice cowards go into the dangerous neighborhoods where the problems truly lie.

Perhaps Homan needs a taste of his own medicine? Do unto others and all that. He should be fine with the terrorizing given his previous choices.

I guess, literally, he probably means that if Democrats do not allow ICE to deport criminals, potential murderers, & rapists, then there would be bloodshed by those criminals who could have been deported if ICE had not been thwarted. In other words, the people who might harm others & could have been removed from the country would still remain here committing crimes.

However, in light of recent events involving ICE shooting at what appears to me to have been an anxious, bad female driver, the statement sounds much worse/more-ominous/baleful.

P.S. I do not like masked government officials, even if there are people associated with groups like ANTIFA who are willing to murder over this issue. However, I would rather be able to hold government officials accountable. If an ANTIFA member murders someone, they should go to jail, just like an ICE agent should go to jail if they murder someone.

You voted for this.

You’ve betrayed your neighbors and communities, you’ve supported raping of children, given a pass to pedophiles and let the billionaires and oligarchs dismantle our social systems; destroying the middle class and oppressing minorities.

You’ve allowed the right for a woman to decide her own fate and health concerns to be governed by rapists and thieves.

Rot in hell.

May leopards feast on your face for eternity.

Sorry to break that self-righteous rage of yours on the rocks of independent voting.

I voted (and have) straight Democratic ticket. Always.

But I like making sure during the --> primaries, <-- (hello, pay attention here..) that as a registered Republican, I can choose the candidates with the least chance of going anywhere.

Also, I'm on the right-wing mailing lists so I know what the state GOP is up to, and can bring it up in the right way to torpedo their plans.

Tactics kid.. tactics.

LOL No problem. I didn't take it personally, since I don't really advertise my voting agenda.

Is actually an old Rush Limbaugh move, in that he would tell his listeners to register Democrat and do the same thing - primary in the weakest candidates.. Which, well.. got me thinking.. Since he's dead, why not use his own tactics against the right?

Hell yeah!

Hmm. Turnabout is fair play, wouldn't you agree?

I can do it with a clean conscience because the area I live in is solidly Democrat and the Democratic candidates are fairly well known and popular. Also, there's nothing stopping me as a registered Republican from canvassing and helping Democratic candidates - which I've done on occasion when there's a real tight race.

There's a part of me that cries for what the Party of Lincoln has collapsed into - surely the first Republican President who was absolutely progressive and stopped slavery, would be dismayed by what the GOP's become.. And there's another part of me that remembers Reagan's shitty statements about the poor and families on welfare and his whole "trickle down" economics which is like piss on all of us - and I am just tickled pink it's rotten to the core now.

I blame Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and Lee Atwater for the current classist, racist zeitgeist in the GOP, esp. in the south. It was always there of course, but those three cunts gave it a contemporary spin.

If you've got the time hit the wiki on the Southern Strategy. It's a long read but frames the context of a ton of the shit politics that the GOP is currently operating on.
